Sea Level Traversing

The Complete Package

Anglesey Coastline – North Wales

MTA CPD Workshop

Sea Level Traversing (SLT) is an adventurous activity that falls under Combined Rock and Water Activities (CRAWA) and is delivered by a variety of organisations that are based near the coast.

It is not just MIA holders that deliver this exciting activity, but includes SPA and ML holders with some staff holding additional paddlesport qualifications. However, SLT has no formal NGB structure or qualification within the UK therefore, training, guidance, CPD, sharing of knowledge and hands on experience can be difficult to obtain for many SPA and ML holders.

MTA have addressed this by providing a workshop that gives an insight, serves as a training package and provides a great opportunity to share knowledge and up skill.

The workshop will be very much hands one ( hence the max 1.4 ratio) and based at one of North Wales’ most popular venues. The day will focus on a journey moving along the coastline (at or just above the waters edge) and will include the use of clip lines, basic tyroleans, risk, anchors, rigging and venue choice.

I have been delivering Sea Level Traversing and Coasteering for over 25 years. I was one of the founders of the National Coasteering Charter Group. (NCC – http://www.nationalcoasteeringcharter.org.uk) and still have an active part in the NCC by currently being one of the North Wales regional reps.

In addition to this, through my various roles within the industry I have written guidance, good practice documents and risk assessments for SLT. Alongside delivering training and signing staff off as competent to delivery SLT and working as Technical Advisor for the activitiy.  I am still active delivering SLT sessions for a range of groups.

I represented Mountain Leader Training in the establishment of UK good practice documents for coasteering and the new Coasteering Charter Group.
